 We exist to serve the veteran and their family.
The Dickinson County Office of Veterans' Affairs was formed during World War II to assist the soldiers going to and coming home from war.  The Office was founded in the early 1940s and is the oldest County Veterans Office in the State of Michigan.  The office operates on a millage voted on by the people of Dickinson County for assisting and aiding veterans of the county and families or widows of veterans.
The office assists with:
  • service and non-service related disabilities,
  • pensions,
  • VA applications
  • Eligibility Verfication Reports,
  • educational benefits,
  • Michigan Veterans Trust Fund Assistance--help with past due bills, rent/housing payments, hearing aids, and past due medical bills, 
  • county burial benefits,
  • VA home loans,
  • Soldiers, Sailors Relief,
  • military aid for active and retired veterans,
  • Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit,
  • Home Heating Tax Credit,
  • counseling for veterans, their spouses and their children,
  • working with social services and government agencies,
  • upgrading of discharges, if possible,
  • document notarizing,
  • many other veterans issues.
The Office of Veterans' Affairs also coordinates:
  • the 67th annual SHARE YOUR CHRISTMAS program for all indigent and low income families of Dickinson County, the oldest program of its type in the State of Michigan,
  • Veterans' Day and Memorial Day Programs and activities,
  • grave flags within Dickinson County,
  • ordering of markers for honorably discharged veterans
