History:

The office was started about 1943 to aid veterans and families.

Functions:

The office operates on a millage voted by the people of Dickinson County for assisting and aiding veterans of the county and families or widows of veterans. The office aids in helping with service connected disabilities, non-service connected disabilities, widows' pensions, county burial benefits, aid with VA home loans, military aid for active and retired veterans and many other veterans issues. We also coordinate the 62nd annual SHARE YOUR CHRISTMAS program for all indigent and low income families of Dickinson County. It is the oldest program of its type in the State of Michigan. We also do Mich Homestead Tax and Heating for veterans and widows of veterans.
