Dear Dickinson County Board of Commissioners,
We, Stephanie Alsteens, Bridgette Cazola, and Ashley Kleikamp, have been working with Pete Schlitt over the past year to complete our Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest award you can receive in Girl Scouts. Over the past few months, we have been observing traffic passing through Dickinson County. We each sat on the side of the M95/US2 North junction and the US2/144 South junction at different times. We also spent a few hours observing traffic near the US2/Highway 8 junction and the M95/M69 Avenue junction near Sagola. While watching traffic, we looked for the chemical placards on trucks and recorded the four digit chemical code, date, time, and location. We each spent forty hours observing traffic with a friend and an adult.
After spending 120 hours observing traffic, we had a meeting to organize the information into excel. To make the information easier to understand, we created charts and graphs. We used the Emergency Response Guidebook to learn what each chemical code on the placards stood for and what should be done if there was a spill.
We started this project in October of 2006 and collected our data during the summer of 2007. We would like to put our information onto the County web page, so that it is available for the public to view.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Alsteens
Bridgette Cazola
Ashley Kleikamp
